Genesys Therapy Services opens in Clarkston

Sam Gill, physical therapist; and Heidi Birchmeier, receptionist
(GENESEE COUNTY, MI) Genesys has brought physical therapy care into the Clarkston community.
The newly-opened Clarkston facility is located at 5625 Water Tower Place, Suite G22 (at Dixie Highway and White Lake Road).

Services at this location include: physical therapy with expertise in orthopedics, sports rehabilitation, vestibular rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, fall prevention and spine care.

Physical therapist Sam Gill, who treats patients at the Clarkston facility, has extensive orthopedic and manual therapy skills. In addition, is one of only a few certified vestibular rehabilitation therapists in Michigan.

Vestibular therapy includes specific exercises and activities for people with dizziness or balance issues caused by problems with the inner ear or the brain pathways interacting with the inner ear.

“We are very excited to offer the Clarkston area community orthopedic, spine, sport and neurological rehabilitation with the additional knowledge that vestibular therapy brings,” Gill announces. “Often, the vestibular system is influencing a patient’s recovery from injury or surgery and it is not initially identified as problematic. In many instances, we are able to improve a patient's rehabilitation outcome with vestibular therapy."

Hours at Genesys Therapy Services in Clarkston are:
Monday, Tuesday and Thursday: 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday and Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Genesys physical therapist Sam Gill also offers a simple treatment for vertigo. A condition called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) causes vertigo, dizziness and other symptoms as a result of debris that has collected within the inner ear. This debris, made up of small crystals of calcium carbonate (sometimes called ear rocks) will shift with fast head movements and send false signals to the brain. Gill was trained to conduct particle repositioning maneuvers, a well-documented, evidence-based treatment for certain forms of vertigo.Through these manuevers, he is able to move the detached debris out of the ear canal.

According to Gill, "this is a simple, treatable ear problem, and one that often is undertreated. If you think you have this condition, check with your family physician first."

Gill provides this treatment at the Clarkston therapy services site.
